In what I would argue is the most disturbing piece of testimony during the Impeachment Trial today, Alan Dershowitz, noted Harvard Constitutional expert and defender of #Twitler, #Epstein and Mike Tyson, Patty Hearst, and Jim Bakker among other celebrities, claimed that, if the president tried to dig up dirt by bribing a foreign nation (by withholding duly and properly disbursed federal funding) in order for him to be re-elected, it would be just fine if the president believed that doing so would be in the country’s best interest. All this, despite the mention of “bribery” right there in the first sentence of the Impeachment Clause.
The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
That’s right. Alan Dershowitz now believes that bribery of a foreign nation using federally assigned funding to a military ally in a time of war for personal gain is okay. But let’s take this to it’s logical extensions:
If #Twitler thought it was in the best interest for the country for him to walk up to someone on Fifth Avenue and shoot them, it would be okay.
If he thought it was in the best interest of the country for him to grab Angela Merkel in the privates, it would be just fine and dandy.
If he thought it were in the best interest of the country to arrest or execute his political opponents in order to keep his job, it’s perfectly fine.
Sorry, Alan, it’s not okay.
Additionally, as reported in Truthout, “Dershowitz, who said abuse of trust could be an impeachable offense during Clinton's impeachment, told senators that abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are now no longer grounds for impeachment.”
Also, he stated today that the president has every right to exert blanket executive privilege — yet it's clear in every first year constitutional law book that "Executive Privilege Can't Shield Wrongdoing" (note that link is from the Heritage Foundation's examination of Eric Holder's claim of executive privilege in the Fast and Furious case) .
Clearly, #Tre45on has got Dirt on Dershowitz, probably stemming to their times at Epstein’s private island getting massages. Otherwise, do you really think he’d be shredding his beloved Constitution this madly?
